President’s Message
November is well-known for Thanksgiving, Veterans Day and the start of the holiday season. It is recognized for various food-related holidays and observances. A month brimming with celebrations, observances and cultural significance, marking a period of transition, reflection, and community engagement.
In the Northern Hemisphere, November marks the transition from fall to winter, with cooler temperatures and shorter days. In many regions, daylight savings time ends in November, resulting in shorter days and longer nights.
November is a month packed with awareness campaigns, including Diabetes Awareness Month, World Kindness Day, International Stress Awareness Week and many health-related awareness campaigns such as Lung Cancer Awareness Month and National Epilepsy Awareness Month.
Here are two fun facts you may not be aware of and may want to celebrate them.
• National Men Make Dinner Day: the first Thursday in November. Some of us may think this should be every Thursday, year-round.
• National Sandwich Day: November 3, which is also National Housewife Day From honoring veterans to gathering with loved ones for Thanksgiving feasts, November invites us to recognize both national milestones and the simple joys of daily life.
While crisp air and early sunsets set the scene for cozy indoor activities, the calendar overflows with occasions to appreciate everything from kindness and heritage to culinary creativity.

Pineapple Avenue Sarasota Join us to enjoy all the excitement of a live art auction at the Sarasota Estate Auction Gallery! We will meet up at 11:00 to enjoy the lunch that is served, and to browse the art and other collectibles. The auction will begin at noon. The auction lasts all afternoon so you can stay as long as you like. Most of us will not be bidding! It will be fun to observe the paintings, jewelry, and art glass sculptures that are being auctioned - - and what people are willing to pay for them! Andrew Ford, the auctioneer, will provide informative and engaging commentary about each item. We have the opportunity to have a private one hour lecture and discussion with a Mote scientist in one of the beautiful new classrooms on the topic of “Rescue and Rehabilitation of Manatees and other Marine Mammals”. Following this, visit the spectacular new aquarium at your leisure. Class size is limited so register early. Send a check for $12 made out to Encore Inc. to Barbara Steele at 2165 Gulf of Mexico Drive, #132, Longboat Key, FL 34228. This will hold your place in the class. The deadline is January 1, 2026. Unless you are a member or active volunteer, prior to the event you will also need to purchase your timed entry ticket to the aquarium. It is best to do this online because you cannot count on being able to walk up the ticket window and get immediate entry. If you order your ticket more than 30 days in advance, there is a discount. If you are a member or volunteer, you still need to reserve your entry time. There is a nice café in the aquarium if you want to come early and have lunch.
